In 1941 the Victoria Hall was destroyed in a German bombing raid over Sunderland.

 

Queen Victoria made a donation to the disaster fund.

In a message of condolence the Queen included the words, 'Suffer little children to come unto me, for such is the Kingdom of God’.

Luke 18:16

 

A rocking horse was given to Emily Steel of Gray Road as a prize on the day of the disaster.  Not long after receiving the prize another child broke the front legs of the rocking horse.

I have used a little artistic licence to incorporate an actual image of the rocking horse next to an image of the memorial.

In the background stands the Victoria Hall.
